No time to play

No time to play, “Grow up!" They said,

Sun still shone on the garden green,

They whisked me quickly off to bed.

Outside in dry mud, dolls with no head,

I sit and watch my Mummy’s friends smoking,

No time to play, “Grow up!” They said.

Downstairs at night with my imaginary friend Fred,

Mummy’s boyfriend again came round to play,

They whisked my quickly off to bed.

Mum looks ill, she rubs her head,

I heard shouts last night, crashes too.

No time to play “Grow up!” They said.

Blue flashing lights, police she said.

They knocked down the door, took my Mummy,

They whisked me quickly off to bed.

In a strange room at my new house,

My new Mum comes in with a cup of warm milk.

No time to play “Grow up!” They said,

And whisked me quickly off to bed.
